Things to Do in the Sunshine Coast, BC

There is more to do on this piece of Sunshine Coast real estate than time to do it all.  But residents and visitors enjoy trying; some visitors return to continue the quest.  The magnificent natural gifts of sunny weather, water and mountains that favor the area focus much of the action outdoors.  There are outdoor recreations to suit a variety of interests and activity levels.

Start with the water.  You can swim or dive in it.  Swimming is available all along coastline parks and fresh water lakes as well.  The maze of coves and islands around Pender Harbour make it one of the most popular spots for diving.  A more adventurous diver might be happier in the Skookumchuck Narrows or on location of the Canadian destroyer escort sunk by The Artificial Reef Society.

Maybe gliding along on a canoe or kayak would be more to your liking.  The protected coastline and coves tucked in at Smuggler Cove Provincial Park may suit you.  Or you may prefer the challenge of the Skookumchuk Narrows.  Boats of every kind are part of life here.  Rent one or bring your own.

Are you a fisherman?  Salt and freshwater fish such as salmon, flounder, red snapper, trout, crabs and prawns are waiting to test your patience and skill. There are a number of fully equipped marinas such as those in Secret Cove, Pender Harbour or Egmont to provide boats or fishing supplies and tips about baits, times and hot spots in their area.  Half Moon Bay heads the list for fishing charter locations.

Golfers will be in their element at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club near Roberts Creek or Pender Harbour Golf Club.  Enjoy the beautiful views of the mountains and Howe Sound on the links at Langdale Height Par 3 Golf Course.  There’s even a Fisherman’s Golf Tournament for those who aren’t sure where their allegiance lies.

If tennis is your game, you'll appreciate the number of racquet clubs along the coast that provide instruction, children's programs, indoor courts and tournament play.

Venues for hiking, camping, mountain biking and picnics are plentiful and varied.  The great numbers of parks run the gamut from a small city park to the splendour of Princess Louisa Marine Provincial Park, voted the “most scenic natural anchorage in the world.”  Somewhere on Sunshine Coast real estate you’ll find an outdoor experience to satisfy you.

The peace and beauty of the area inspires artists and craftspeople to make their homes and art here.  There are many galleries featuring local artists included in their stock.  Many artists open their home studios to the public to view the artist at work along with finished pieces.

Music and live entertainment are presented in venues along the Sunshine Coast from the Raven’s Cry Theater in Sechelt to the Gibsons Cinema to performances by the Community Choir in Pender Harbour. There are several regular festivals for music lovers.  Come to the Jazz or the Blues or the Chamber Music Festival.  A unique music entertainment is the Christmas Carol Cruise.  Join one of the boats of all kinds touring along behind a coastal tugboat.  It plays carols over its speaker system on its route toward Porpoise Bay and back to Tuwanek.  If you’re not part of the boat parade, come listen in parks along the way.

There is much to celebrate on Sunshine Coast real estate.  Since a good festival adds to the pleasure, we have many of them.  We honor mushrooms, wine and garlic along with music, the fall season and the arts.  The Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts is probably most well known, bringing writers and readers from all over.  But you might enjoy the party at the Outrigger Canoe Races or Sea Cavalcade, The Sunshine Coast Art Crawl or Astronomy in the Park.

Whatever your pleasure, you’ll find recreation, sports and diversions to excite you.  Come home to the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia.
